Week 1 · Induction: quality in TEL and choosing your focus
MLO1, MLO5 · PLO1 AIAS: none in session
Overview (about 15 hours). We build our learning community, make the module's logic visible (outcomes, then units, then portfolio), agree what "quality" in TEL means, and you choose a provisional focus technology.
Before the seminar (about 2 hours, open 7 days before)
Welcome video (6 min)
captioned · transcript- Read Start Here: how this module works.
- Post a 100-word introduction on the Introductions board: role, setting, and one technology you use weekly.
- Complete the 5-item "digital confidence" self-check (not graded).
Seminar 1 · on campus, 17:30–19:30 UK
| Time | Activity |
|---|---|
| 0:00–0:15 | Welcome: "technology I'd keep and one I'd bin", in pairs, then whole group |
| 0:15–0:35 | Module map: outcomes → units → portfolio P1–P4 → Educational Research → Innovation Project |
| 0:35–1:05 | "What is quality in TEL?" Groups sort 12 criterion cards into a diamond-9, then compare with TPACK and Laurillard |
| 1:05–1:15 | Break |
| 1:15–1:40 | Choosing a focus: complete the focus canvas; critical-friend questions |
| 1:40–1:55 | AI in this module: AIAS levels, the AI-use declaration, why there is a recorded reflection |
| 1:55–2:00 | Exit ticket: muddiest point, and your focus in one sentence |
Async route (can't attend?). Watch the recording in three short segments (module map, quality criteria, AIAS). Do the diamond-9 on the Week 1 e-tivity board (drag the 12 cards and post your top three with reasons), complete the focus canvas, and take the exit-ticket quiz. Due Sun 23:59 UK.
Do: e-tivity 1 · "Keep or bin?"
Spark: one technology you'd keep and one you'd bin. Task: post both, with one reason based on learners (not convenience). Respond: reply to two peers whose settings differ from yours. Weaving: Daniel summarises the themes on Friday.
Portfolio step
Finalise your focus canvas (technology, learners, current purpose, hunch about impact, data available) and upload it (complete/incomplete). Begin Unit 1.
AI this week. No AI in the seminar. From Week 2 you may use AI at AIAS 2 to brainstorm your baseline structure, and you must say so.
Support
